Events page.This page will show the many events that have taken place in the town over the last few years .There will be links to photo`s,galleries and flash movies on other parts of the site.The events are not all in date order. A full list of events [including those in Thetford] can be found on the events list,you can add your own.More information is also available the towns web siteInternational Day. This took place on September 6th 2001 and was a celebration of music and dance with Thetford`s twin towns.
Carnival June 21st 2003. A parade of children and Zulu warriors led the town to Castle Park where there were fun fairs,music and displays.The music finally stopped as the sun set.Click on the image below to look at the collage or why not have a quick look at Zulu Nation in action.
Fabba July 28th 2002 The people of Thetford were entertained on a warm summer evening in July 2002 by Soul Solution and an Abba sound like band,Fabba.it was a great evening a over 5000 people came to have a look. Saxon battle. As part of the 800th year since Richard I made Thetford a mayoral town a battle that `might` have taken place between Saxons and Normans was re enacted on the grounds on Castle Hill.As you can see the event took place in June 1999.
Mini Steam Rally. Most years in the town there is a mini steam rally to raise funds for the Charles Burrell museum in the town.Charles Burrell was the largest maker of steam engines in the world until it went broke in 1929.The event is held nearly every Easter Sunday.There is collage from the 2006 event here.
Millennium. The town gathered in a local car park to watch fireworks being lit on `Butten Island`,there was a great atmosphere.This is my front room after we returned home. Dad`s Army. A popular TV show was filmed in and around the town.The series was about theHome Guard which would have defended the UK in the event of an invasion during the Second World War.A museum dedicated to the series was opened at nearby Bressingham and a parade of the vehicles and actors took place inThetford in June 2000. On parade. The town continued it`s celebrations of having a mayor for 800 years with a display of riding skills from the Household Cavalry and marching music from the Welsh guards. Jubilee. There were two main events in the town to mark the Golden Jubilee of the queen,a children`s parade and a march by members of the Royal British Legion. Thetford History Weekend.September 13-14th 2003. A weekend of events in and around the town showing the history of the town.A good weekend blessed with large crowds and fine weather.Click the photo below to see the collage,there is a flash movie or have a look at the gallery. Partial eclipse. A partial eclipse as seen from my place of work. The flying Scotsman. A very famous steam train made a `flying` visit to the town.It passed through the town railway station on the way to and later on the way back from Norwich.It did not stop but there was a very large crowd to wave and cheer it on it`s way.
World Cup The town was decorated during the World Cup,2006.Houses and pubs showed their support for the England team. The French Market. France came to the town again on June 23rd,2006,and for once it did not rain ! Cawston Band The Cawston band entertained us in the gardens of King`s House on June 25th,2006.Summer concerts are held here most years. Picnic in the park. As part of Anglo Sikh heritage week came to town with a dancing and fighting display. Samba dancing. Not a quiet evening in September 2006 as the Samba dancers came to town.You can see and hear a little of the action here. Dragon Boat Racing.
